BOOK STUDY: DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN (DAY 17)

On 30 June, 2013 by eraza

Hey,

Day out yesterday ended a bit differently than I thought and didn’t get the work done I wanted to so a bit behind schedule, but I’ll still be done with the book within next week and in good time before going on holiday!

Today I spent 4 hours on the below drawing. The author had me try to copy a portrait drawing of Edward Steichen, a painter from the 19th century. The twist was that the image isn’t fully detailed as many of the features of his face are only hinted at in the shadows.

I was a bit nervous about working with shading as I haven’t done that well with it in the past but it turned out quite OK, few mistakes here and there but it reads alright. Here it is:

Day 17 - Portrait drawing of Edward Steichen

Tomorrow I’ll be doing some hatching practise and hopefully get started on the final assignment for the book. My final self-portrait!
